Rowing in Canada
Ottawa and the Rideau Canal
This tour – organized together with OAR in Ontario, starts in the wonderful capital of Canada. Rowing through Ottawa, we will pass the historical parliament building, which is famous for it’s neo-gothic style and the majestic location above the Ottawa River. On the first day of rowing, rowers will have the rare opportunity to participate in the Canadian Sculling Marathon and row 42 or 26 km beneath Parliament Hill on the mighty Ottawa River. For the next four days, rowing will take place on on the Rideau Canal, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
On the second day of rowing, the tour will lead you through pleasant farm countryside and several locks to Smith Falls where you can finally visit the Rideau Canal Museum. The third day will be a long row from Kingston to Jones Falls. Days three and four will cover the most beautiful part of the canal where rowers are sure to see loons and osprey on the various lakes. For the Rideau Canal section, you will be staying in a historic lodge situated in a beautiful property. The last day of rowing will give you an outstanding view of the edifices of Canada’s financial capital – you will row through Toronto harbour to the Toronto Islands and enjoy your time during a picnic there.
