Does age play a role in rowing?

Rowing and age

The age in a rowing boat doesn’t matter. Take a look at the FISA Master Regattas … the participants are 90 years old and older. FISA has recently expanded its categories and added an additional age group.

Rowing tours usually have participants in the age groups from 45 to 75 years. Volker from Rowing in Europe reported about a guest at the age of 80. He was one of the most active people in the tour boat. He always wanted to sit on one punch, lead the boat and set the pace.

Of course, not everyone feels as fit as he does. With average endurance and normal fitness, older people can also take part in tours. Remember, you’re on a rowing trip, we’re talking about touring rowing, not regattas or races. What is interesting, however, is that the participants are quite fit.
