Rowing in Germany – Rowing in a historic cultural landscape
The Mecklenburg Lake District offers you a holiday full of experiences and surprises. No less than 1117 natural lakes forming the largest networked water sports area in Europe, right in the middle is the Müritz.
The Müritz National Park with UNESCO World Natural Heritage and 4 other nature parks offer countless recreational opportunities. Guts and manor houses characterize the unique historical cultural landscape. Treat yourself to a personal moment of happiness and discover for yourself what makes the land of the 1000 lakes so unique for everyone. And: Most lakes have drinking water quality.
The Müritz is officially Germany’s second largest lake, after the Bodensee. However, many say that the Müritz is Germany’s largest lake, as in contrast to Lake Constance it belongs fully to Germany. There are hundreds of smaller lakes in the area, some of which are connected by canals, making it a great network of waterways. A fantastic water sports paradise!
In addition to rowers countless canoeists are on the lakes and canals. Sailing is even practiced on the large lakes. Here one meets beside many motor yachts, for which speed restrictions exists also houseboats. The commercial shipping is largely limited to the excursion boats of the Müritz fleet.
Our tour can be organized as a rally, where we have the same hotel every day, or we row a new hotel every day. Or: we sleep in a houseboat. The boat follows us and provides the crew with food and drink.
